Rising tenor Nathan Pacheco brings soulful vocals to first solo concert special

Written by witf.org | Aug 10, 2012 11:00 AM

Following a recent sold-out concert tour of the United Kingdom with soprano Katherine Jenkins and the National Symphony Orchestra, the popular young American singer-songwriter Nathan Pacheco is seen in his first solo concert special for public television. Accompanied by renowned musicians, Pacheco performs beautiful original compositions along with newly created renditions of beloved classics. INTRODUCING NATHAN PACHECO is part of special programming premiering on witf on August 16 at 9:30 p.m., August 17 at 2:30 a.m. and August 19 at 10 p.m.

Pacheco, who is known to PBS audiences through his appearance in the YANNI VOICES special, was discovered by producer Ric Wake (Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston) and was a featured performer with pianist/composer Yanni on a tour of the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He has been featured on several national television broadcasts, including two PBS specials and the ABC/Disney Parks Christmas Parade. He has performed for His Royal Highness Prince Charles at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., sung “O Holy Night” on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, in Philadelphia’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the ABC/Disney Parks Christmas Parade with Katherine Jenkins; he joined Jenkins for a U.K. tour with the London Symphony Orchestra as a fully integrated special guest artist — all in the past year. In addition, Pacheco performed for the 100th anniversary of the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., on the south lawn of the White House and at the Washington Monument.

Though known best for his singing, Pacheco is also an avid composer. He has completed his debut album, writing and collaborating with multi-platinum composer/producer Leo-Z (Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban). The album was largely completed in London at the legendary Air Lyndhurst Studios with London’s Philharmonia Orchestra and will be released in September of 2012 on Disney Pearl.

Favorite Pledge Program: Alone in The Wilderness – The Story of Dick Proenneke.  Mr. Proenneke’s storytelling, matched with his carpentry skill, ingenious craftsmanship and endurance through Alaskan winters will forever be classic.

Best thing witf does for the community: witf free, family-fun and educational events are the best!

Best thing about working for witf:  Meeting fans and members!  Whenever I meet someone new and they learn that I work for witf, the praise, the connections, the stories I hear are truly touching!  witf fans learn so much from our programming, love what we bring to the community and are truly grateful for all of the contributions from every witf employee.  It may not be listed as a benefit in the employee handbook, but appreciation and gratitude from the witf membership is a great perk!

Favorite thing to order when out with friends: Right now I can’t get enough of the shark tacos at Sturges Speakeasy!  Light, refreshing, served with a side of boardwalk-style fries.  Yum!

Hobbies & How you picked them up: I absolutely love nerdy word games… Crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Boggle, Hang Man - I’m always up for a word challenge.  My earliest memories of loving word games goes back to playing board games with my Mom in the family basement.  We started with Boggle, and then moved on to UpWords (a form of Scrabble where you can add letters vertically and horizontally) and then Scrabble when I was older.  Now when my grandma, my mom and I get together, we’ll have three generations spending hours in the kitchen solving crossword puzzles as a team.

Favorite witf TV Program & Why: Sesame Street is a favorite.  I love hearing my daughter use a word she learned from her favorite monster friends.  The latest is “soggy”.  She loves to announce that she is soggy at the pool and in the tub.  They were here for me as a child and now they are here for me as a father.

Best thing witf does for the community:   I am a huge fan of “Ready Set Go… Kindergarten”. Watching hundreds of kids ride a bus for the first time, and hearing the hope, fears, and humorous stories from parents as they help their children prepare for this change moves me and gives me comfort for the day my kids head to meet their Kindergarten teacher and classmates.

Favorite thing to do on the weekends:  Playground and pool time with my family.  That of course goes hand in hand with that quiet moment when I finally get to sit next to my wife after the kids are in bed.

Favorite thing to order when out with friends:  Small plates.  There is nothing like filling a table with plate after plate of unique flavors, sharing them, and discussing them.

Best thing about living in Central PA:  It is a short drive from so many amazing places.  Theaters, museums, stadiums, parks, and scenic views.

Favorite witf FM Program & Why: This American Life because Ira Glass makes long drives fly by!

Best thing witf does for the community: Provide quality media to the region at a time when you rarely find the words quality and media in the same sentence.

Favorite thing to do on the weekends: Explore natural swimming holes in PA with my yellow Labrador Beckett. Favorite thing to order when out with friends: Any local beer. Central PA is starting to fill up with local breweries! Liquid Hero in York is a favorite.

Hobbies & How you picked them up: Tennis and snowboarding are at the top of my list. I’ve been playing tennis since I was 14 and began snowboarding when I was much younger.
