Great Performances will present 12-year-old classical crossover prodigy Jackie Evancho’s second television special, Jackie Evancho: Music of the Movies, on witf on August 16 at 8 p.m., August 17 at 1 a.m. and August 19 at 7 p.m.
The new special, a follow-up to her popular debut special Great Performances Dream With Me in Concert, will be recorded in the opulent splendor of the newly restored Orpheum Theatre, one of Los Angeles’ most venerable landmarks, and will feature such evergreens as “Pure Imagination,” “My Heart Will Go On,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” and “Some Enchanted Evening.”
Jackie Evancho: Music of the Movies is directed by David Horn with conductor Bill Ross, and will feature Jackie singing arrangements of songs from movies.
Jackie Evancho got her big break at just 10-years-old as a contestant on America’s Got Talent, where the breakout star finished in second place. Her first release for Columbia Records, a Christmas EP titled O Holy Night, was certified platinum and earned Jackie the distinction of being the top-selling debut artist in 2010 as well as the youngest solo artist ever to go platinum and debut in the Top 10. In 2011 she released Dream With Me, her debut major label full-length album. Dream With Me was produced by the legendary David Foster, and debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart and is certified Gold. She recorded Dream With Me in Concert for PBS’ Great Performances in 2011, and the special rapidly became one of PBS’ most broadcast programs of the year.

Best thing witf does for the community: witf free, family-fun and educational events are the best!
Best thing about working for witf: Meeting fans and members! Whenever I meet someone new and they learn that I work for witf, the praise, the connections, the stories I hear are truly touching! witf fans learn so much from our programming, love what we bring to the community and are truly grateful for all of the contributions from every witf employee. Favorite thing to order when out with friends: Right now I can’t get enough of the shark tacos at Sturges Speakeasy! Light, refreshing, served with a side of boardwalk-style fries. Yum!
Hobbies & How you picked them up: I absolutely love nerdy word games… Crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Boggle, Hang Man - I’m always up for a word challenge. My earliest memories of loving word games goes back to playing board games with my Mom in the family basement. We started with Boggle, and then moved on to UpWords (a form of Scrabble where you can add letters vertically and horizontally) and then Scrabble when I was older. Now when my grandma, my mom and I get together, we’ll have three generations spending hours in the kitchen solving crossword puzzles as a team.
Favorite witf TV Program & Why: Sesame Street is a favorite. I love hearing my daughter use a word she learned from her favorite monster friends. The latest is “soggy”. She loves to announce that she is soggy at the pool and in the tub. They were here for me as a child and now they are here for me as a father.
Best thing witf does for the community: I am a huge fan of “Ready Set Go… Kindergarten”. Watching hundreds of kids ride a bus for the first time, and hearing the hope, fears, and humorous stories from parents as they help their children prepare for this change moves me and gives me comfort for the day my kids head to meet their Kindergarten teacher and classmates.
Favorite thing to do on the weekends: Playground and pool time with my family. That of course goes hand in hand with that quiet moment when I finally get to sit next to my wife after the kids are in bed.
Favorite thing to order when out with friends: Small plates. There is nothing like filling a table with plate after plate of unique flavors, sharing them, and discussing them.
Best thing about living in Central PA: It is a short drive from so many amazing places. Theaters, museums, stadiums, parks, and scenic views.
Favorite witf FM Program & Why: This American Life because Ira Glass makes long drives fly by!
Best thing witf does for the community: Provide quality media to the region at a time when you rarely find the words quality and media in the same sentence.
Favorite thing to do on the weekends: Explore natural swimming holes in PA with my yellow Labrador Beckett. Favorite thing to order when out with friends: Any local beer. Central PA is starting to fill up with local breweries! Liquid Hero in York is a favorite.
Hobbies & How you picked them up: Tennis and snowboarding are at the top of my list. I’ve been playing tennis since I was 14 and began snowboarding when I was much younger.
