witf to broadcast Republican Primary Debate

Written by witf.org | Feb 9, 2012 6:46 PM

In a first for public media, witf will join public television and radio stations nationwide in exclusive broadcast of a Presidential debate. The debate, produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB), will be Monday, March 19, 2012 at 9 p.m. Eastern time. The debate is sponsored by the Oregon Republican Party and The Washington Times and will originate from OPB studios in Portland, Oregon.

Coming shortly after Super Tuesday, this debate will mark a critical moment in the Republican presidential nomination process, affording voters the opportunity to hear directly from the final candidates on their plans to tackle the challenges facing the United States. OPB projects that no more than three candidates will participate in this debate. Super Tuesday is March 6 but delegate counts indicate that it will not be possible for the nomination to be won by any candidate by then. Political observers believe that the nomination contest could very likely go into the late spring.

The debate will be moderated in collaboration with journalists from NPR, The Washington Times and other media organizations. witf will air the debate live on witf-TV and witf 89.5 and 93.3 FM. For details about the debate, visit http://www.opb.org/insideopb/.
