(Dover) -- With attention fully focused on the Christmas holiday, growers say those looking for a fresh cut tree to decorate their homes should have a good selection to choose from across the midstate. Gerrit Strathmeyer of Strathmeyer Forests in Dover, York County, is a member of the Pennsylvania Christmas Tree Growers Association. He says he's pleased with this year's crop. "The color of the trees is a nice dark, deep green. The new growth is very lush," he says. "The trees should, because we've had some nice frosts here, do really well as far as needle retention." Strathmeyer says the market for fresh cut Christmas trees is generally recession-proof -- because people will usually find the money to buy one, even if it's smaller than usual. He adds his business is offering an economical way to celebrate the season -- with a new table top tree that sits about two to three feet tall and comes with a stand.
