Keira McGuire, witf Producer and Host
Keira McGuire is the producer and host of HealthSmart, a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award winning show. HealthSmart features medical topics that affect WITF's viewers. Keira is proud to host a program that has the ability to help someone live a happier, healthier life.
Before Keira joined WITF, she worked for WMDT 47 News in Salisbury, Maryland. She spent three years covering breaking news on Maryland's Eastern Shore as a reporter and anchor. She covered everything from rocket launches at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility to the 2008 race for the White House. Keira also produced newscasts for WMDT 47.
Most recently, Keira worked for WBFF FOX 45 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Keira graduated from Towson University in Towson, Maryland with a degree in journalism.
When Keira is not working she enjoys spending time with her family near the Maryland-Pennsylvania line. Keira, her husband Tim and their boxer Chauncey live near Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania

On January 29th, about 150 students from 67 schools took a 100-word written spelling test at the witf Public Media Center. Here are a few snapshots from the day!

Congratulations to Joanna Ye! The eighth-grader from Lamberton Middle School in Carlisle placed third in the 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee! Joanna was the winner of witf's Central PA Spelling Bee for the second year in a row. Last year Ye tied for fifth place in the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee. She was one of two 2010 championship finalists returning to the national bee. This year, Ye competed against 274 spellers from all 50 states and tied for third!
Some of the words Ye spelled during the Scripps National Spelling Bee were "brachygraphy," "pinetum," "rocaille" and "hypotrichosis."

The winner of Witf’s Central PA Spelling Bee is heading to the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, DC! Joanna Ye was the winner of the Central PA Spelling Bee for the second year in a row. On June 1st, she will spell down in the 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee Preliminaries. The finals will begin at 8:30 pm on June 2nd. Ye will be competing against 274 spellers from all 50 states. Ye tied for 5th place in the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee. She is one of two 2010 championship finalists returning to the national bee. Ye is excited to compete again this year and is looking forward to seeing friends she made in 2010. Good luck Joanna!
