The Penn State Nittany Lion and Pitt Panther arm wrestle at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh before the game in September, 2016.

(Pittsburgh) -- The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Pitt Panthers take their showdown to the bright lights of prime time television tonight.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8pm at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

The Panthers are coming off an easy season opener against Albany,.. while the Lions needed overtime last Saturday to take out stubborn Applachian State.

Head coach James Franklin admitted this week his team is a work in progress.

"We played like an inexperienced football team.  We had a bunch of guys playing for the first time, guys that did not play as fast or as confident as I know they are capable of.  And then mistakes.  Guys not playing the techniques or the fundamentals the way we want them played or not even the right assignments," Franklin said.

It's the 99th meeting between the two teams in a series that started in 1893.

Penn State won last year's contest 33-14 at Beaver Stadium.
