(Philadelphia) -- A Philadelphia police officer accused of pointing his gun at two people after a drunken hit-and-run has been arrested.

Authorities said Wednesday that Officer Kevin Klein has been charged with assault, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident for the December 2016 incident.

Officials say Klein was off-duty when he hit another vehicle then took off, swerving down the road and smashing into a median as the car followed him. They say Klein then pulled over and pointed his gun at the pair whose car he hit.

The officer has been suspended for 30 days with the intent to dismiss. He was hired in 2008.

Attempts to reach Klein weren't immediately successful and it is unclear if he has an attorney.
