Police: Crash claims life of 13-year-old Dover student

(Dover)  -- A 13-year-old Dover Area Intermediate School student died last night after being struck by a vehicle along a road in Dover Township, according to Northern York County Regional Police.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene by the York County Coroner's Office. The name of the teen has not been released.

The crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of South Salem Church Road.

Police say the 13-year-old and three other juveniles were standing/walking on the shoulder of the road with an elliptical machine when the crash happened.

Police say a Kia minivan was traveling north on South Salem Church Road when it collided with the elliptical machine and one of the juveniles. 

The 35-year-old driver of the minivan and three of the juveniles were not injured, police said.

Dover Area School District is coordinating counseling services for students and staff, the news release states. The district is encouraging students to attend school today.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
