(Kingston) -- A Roman Catholic priest will not face criminal charges in the alleged misuse of $130,000 belonging to his Luzerne County parish.

The Diocese of Scranton say prosecutors found that the Reverend John Chmil did not personally profit from the misdirected charitable funds. They say he has already repaid more than half of the money.

Chmil resigned from his post at St. Ignatius of Loyola parish in Kingston in May. The diocese says he failed to get proper approval for the use of church funds, but he said the money was used for charitable purposes.

The diocese says Chmil will eventually be allowed to return to service in some form.
