(Reading) -- A prison inmate has been charged with assault following a scuffle with a deputy sheriff in the Berks County courthouse last month.

Twenty-five-year-old Andrew Spencer is facing charges of aggravated and simple assault and disorderly conduct.

Prosecutors say Spencer was talking with his attorney in the courtroom during an August 10 hearing involving another defendant. A deputy told him to keep his voice down, but he didn't and the judge ordered him taken to a holding cell in the basement.

Authorities allege that as he was being escorting to the cell, Spencer elbowed the deputy sheriff in the stomach and bit him on the arm before he was restrained by other deputies.

Spencer remains in the county prison; court documents don't list a defense attorney.
