(Harrisburg) -- The state Department of Labor and Industry says there's a little over a month left for an amnesty program for those who improperly received unemployment compensation benefits.

About 180 thousand individuals and businesses have been notified they were paid over 650 million dollars in unemployment compensation to which they were not entitled, and have until September 30th to make arrangements to repay the funds with reduced penalties and interest.

"To date, we've brought in over 2.1-million dollars which we're very pleased with.  Here again, with this program is the opportunity for folks to make it right," said Robert O'Brien, Acting Labor and Industry Secretary.

O'Brien says a similar amnesty program in 2013 netted the UC trust fund more than 15 million dollars.
