(Harrisburg) -- Pennsylvania's agricultural bounty is being celebrated this month.

Prior to its recess, the state House approved a resolution recognizing August as Pennsylvania Produce Month.

Representative Carol Hill-Evans, who sponsored the measure, says Pennsylvanians should be proud of what our farmers have achieved.

"These farms are responsible for providing healthy food options for Pennsylvanians, generating economic activity in their communities and promoting the diverse crops grown in the Commonwealth," she said.

Pennsylvania is first in the nation in mushroom production, and 4th overall in the production of apples, strawberries and pumpkins.

Representative Hill-Evans says residents should be grateful to those who grow, pick, and transport the food that ends up on our tables.
