(Gap) -- A Lancaster County man who was heading to prison for rape killed himself before serving his sentence.

LNP reports that 67-year-old Michael Mozzani was found dead in a field in Gap on May 30. Police say Mozzani drove to the field and shot himself.

Mozzani pleaded guilty to at least three counts of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse with a child in May. Police say the Gap man assaulted a child several times between 1993 and 1996.

Mozzani had been sentenced to serve a prison sentence of eight to 16 years and five years' probation. A judge also ordered Mozzani to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
