(Reading) -- A retired Berks County teacher and former school board member will spend seven years on probation for a scheme to steal $463,000 in scrap metal from the business where he now works.

66-year-old John DelCollo will spend the first six months of his sentence on house arrest, and must pay back what he stole from Stone Pointe Business Center. He worked for a company that managed the business complex in Muhlenberg Township.

DelCollo spent 33 years as an elementary teacher in the Muhlenberg School District then served on its school board until resigning two years ago when the scrap theft investigation began.

He was supposed to sell scrap metal from the center and turn over the proceeds to Suburban Management, his employer. Instead, he pocketed much of the money.
