(Lancaster) -- People across central Pennsylvania are connecting through social media to help each other dig out of the winter storm.

A public Facebook group called Dig Out Lancaster County was launched last year by LNP Media Group, to help link volunteers with people who need assistance during snowstorms.

LNP's community engagement specialist, Claudia Esbenshade, says so far it's been working well.

"People responding to them saying, 'Hey I can get to you later, or give me an address.'" she says. "It looks like people are really connecting and helping each other out, which is great."

Many of the requests on the page have been from older people, or those dealing with medical issues.

People can request for assistance, or offer to help out by posting a message in the group, or by calling Esbenshade directly. Her phone number is 717- 874-0300.
