(Pittsburgh) -- A search committee has interviewed as many as 10 candidates interested in becoming the next U.S. Attorney for the western district of Pennsylvania.

David Hickton resigned the position in November, days after President Donald Trump was elected. HIckton was appointed by President Barack Obama.

Heather Heidelbaugh, an attorney who is chairing the Pittsburgh-based search committee tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ( ) that between five and 10 candidates were interviewed over the weekend.

Heidelbaugh is a Republican active in politics who once served as an Allegheny County councilwoman.

She says the candidates' names are being kept secret because all have other jobs. The other members of the committee are also secret, to prevent people from trying to lobby them on behalf of a particular candidate.

President Trump must nominate a candidate, who must then be confirmed by the Senate.
