(Carlisle) -- Residents in a midstate borough have been asked to limit their water use after a malfunction at a water plant.

The state Department of Environmental Protection issued the water conservation advisory for Carlisle in Cumberland County.

DEP says water should only be used for drinking, cooking and bathing, and cut back on showers and laundry.

Carlisle borough says it's working with DEP to fix the problem.

DEP says despite the issue at Carlisle's water treatment plant, there's no need to boil water.
