(Chambersburg) -- State police have released the name of a Chambersburg Hospital patient shot and killed last week after officials said he threatened workers and then responding officers with a knife.

Trooper Robert Hicks has identified the man as 64-year-old Dennis Kirk of Chambersburg.

Authorities said police responded to reports of an armed patient threatening workers at about 8:00 a.m. last Thursday at the hospital in Franklin County.

Hicks said earlier that troopers made several attempts to subdue the patient, who then threatened them with the knife.

So, they fired, killing him.
