(Norristown)_ Former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane plans to appeal her perjury conviction and 10- to 23-month jail sentence.

The Mercury of Pottstown  reports that Kane has hired Harrisburg lawyer Joshua Lock to handle the appeal.

The court filing Tuesday did not indicate what legal claims she will raise to seek a new trial.

A jury this year convicted the first-term Democrat of leaking grand jury documents to the press to embarrass a rival prosecutor and lying about it under oath.

She did not testify at the Montgomery County trial and resigned days after the conviction.

Kane remains free on $75,000 cash bail while she appeals. She was convicted of two felony perjury counts and seven misdemeanors.

The 50-year-old Kane lives near Scranton and has two teenage sons.
