(Bellefonte) -- Heavy rains overnight across a stretch of central and western Pennsylvania are bringing flooding, school closures and evacuations.

People in Milesburg and Howard, Centre County, were rescued from their homes due to flooding early this morning.

National Weather Service meteorologist Charles Ross says some parts of Centre County were hit with four to seven inches of rain.

All schools in Sullivan School District are closed today due to flooding and rockslides.

In Montoursville, Lycoming County, some people were awakened by emergency workers this morning and told to evacuate due to a rising creek. Schools there are also closed for the day.

The weather service issued flash flood warnings for a swath of central and western Pennsylvania as rain continues to fall in some areas.

Showers were expected to continue in places like Pittsburgh throughout the day.
