(Sunbury) -- Police say a Northumberland woman bound a misbehaving seven-year-old boy in her basement, then told him "the ghosts will come soon."

Sunbury police say 56-year-old Sandra Santiago abused the son of a friend, last August.

According to a police complaint, child welfare caseworkers say the boy was also forced to sit in a sweltering attic and stand in a corner in his underpants.

Caseworkers reported Santiago after she returned the boy to a day care with cuts and bruises on him.

She allegedly used plastic cable ties to bind the boy to a metal post in the basement.

Police say Santiago acknowledged restraining the boy, but denied the other alleged abuse.

She faces a preliminary hearing August 30.
