(Gettysburg) -- Law enforcement in Adams County have filed charges against the former owner of Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

In a statement, District Attorney Brian Sinnett says the charges, filed against 69-year-old James H. Delaney, of Seven Valleys, relate to theft and violation of Pennsylvania Burial Ground Law.

Dozens of families have complained to police over the past few months about what they described as deplorable conditions at the Cumberland Township cemetery.

Delaney lost possession of the property over the summer after he defaulted on a loan to Shree Ganesh Finance LLC.

He had used the cemetery as collateral on the loan, leading Shree Ganesh Finance to purchase the property July 17th in an Adams County Sheriff's sale for $3,000.
