(Highspire) -- A central Pennsylvania man who stole American flags from veterans' graves and put some of them in a portable toilet will spend two years on probation.

62-year-old Stanley Pinko, of Highspire, was sentenced after pleading guilty Monday to intentional desecration of a public monument.

First Assistant Public Defender Ari Weitzman told a Dauphin County judge that Pinko suffers from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Weitzman could not immediately be reached for additional comment Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Pinko stole the flags in September and October from graves in a church cemetery, as well as the Highspire's war memorial and the Memorial Park in the borough.

Police say they caught Pinko on camera and that Pinko told investigators he was upset with the government.
