(Mechanicsburg) -- Authorities say a girl was critically injured when she and seven other children were shocked in a backyard pool in Cumberland County.

Police were called to the Silver Spring Township home shortly after 6:30 Sunday evening and found an eight-year-old girl outside the pool in cardiac arrest.

Sergeant Jared Huff says a firefighter managed to revive the girl's heart with a defibrillator.

He says she was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where she remained in intensive care.

The other children were shocked but didn't require medical attention.

A child outside the pool flipped a switch to turn on a light inside the pool, and it's believed that led to some kind of electrical malfunction.
