(Gettysburg) -- Authorities say an elderly woman was killed in a house fire in central Pennsylvania.

Officials in Adams County said the blaze in Cumberland Township near Gettysburg was reported at about noon Friday.

Arriving units found a man trying to escape the split-level house through a bay window. Police chief Don Boehs said the woman was found dead on an enclosed porch.

Coroner Pat Felix identified her as 90-year-old Jean Walter and said she died of carbon monoxide toxicity and thermal burns.

The man was flown to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Maryland for treatment of burns.

Police said the fire gutted the home and at one point 75 to 100 live rounds went off inside.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
