(Wilkinsburg) -- Authorities have identified a suspect shot and killed by police in western Pennsylvania after a K-9 officer was stabbed to death.

Port Authority police Chief Matthew Porter and Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt say 37-year-old Bruce Kelley Jr. was killed by officers Sunday afternoon in Wilkinsburg, which is about six miles east of Pittsburgh.

Moffatt says two officers found a father and son drinking in a gazebo and an altercation broke out between them. A

Kelley, who was homeless, allegedly fought an officer, who had to be hospitalized.

Authorities unsuccessfully tried to stun Kelley, prompting the deployment of K-9 Officer Aren.

Moffatt says officers killed Kelley after he stabbed the dog.

Porter says two officers are on administrative leave.

A necropsy is expected to be performed on Aren.
