(State College) -- The National Weather Service says the coldest air mass of the winter season so far is hitting the Eastern U.S. this weekend and the south central Pennsylvania region is right in the middle of it.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory until 5pm this afternoon and a wind chill advisory from late this afternoon until 11am Sunday.

Forecasters say actual high temperatures this weekend will only reach the upper teens.

Winds today and tonight will gust at times to 40 mph.  Wind chill factors are forecast for 9 degrees below zero this afternoon and 16 below Saturday night.

National Weather Service forecasters say the bitter cold continues on Sunday before temperatures begin to moderate again on Monday.
