(Lancaster) -- Students at a Lancaster County middle school are being sent home after elevated natural gas levels were elevated on campus.

The Penn Manor School District says a utility company found the higher gas levels directly outside of Manor Middle School in Lancaster at about 9:30 a.m. today.

Students and staff were immediately evacuated and relocated to nearby Hambright Elementary School.

The gas has been turned off at Manor Middle School and the fire department has declared the building safe for occupancy.

However, because there is no heat in the building, students have been dismissed early.

Buses were scheduled to begin taking students home at 11:15 a.m.
