(York) --  A midstate man was killed along I-83 in York County after he got out of his car after it apparently broke down.

78-year-old Sotirios Drivas of Manchester Township was struck and killed by a passing tractor-trailer.

State police say the accident happened shortly after 12:30 yesterday afternoon in Manchester Township.

Northbound traffic was detoured for hours.

Trooper Robert Hicks says Drivas stopped on the east side shoulder of the interstate and was hit by the truck.

York County Coroner Pam Gay says an autopsy has been scheduled for later this morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.

Police say the truck driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.
