Harrisburg) -- Pennsylvanians can expect a busy election year in 2016, with the presidential campaigns likely setting the tone in the state primary this spring.

Democrats have few choices. Hillary Clinton is widely expected to win the primary April 26, as she did the Pennsylvania primary in 2008.

But Republicans had nearly a dozen candidates as the new year arrived and the primary winner is anything but predictable, which should boost voter turnout and give Pennsylvania a more important role in who gets the GOP nomination.

The presidential contests will top both parties' ballots, but Pennsylvania voters also will choose nominees for a U.S. Senate seat, 18 seats in Congress, 228 seats in the Legislature and the three statewide row offices,.. attorney general, treasurer and auditor general.

Many seats already are contested.
