(Reading) -- A Berks County man convicted of third-degree murder in the death of his four-month-old son has been sentenced to 20-and-a-half to 67 years in state prison.

A Berks County jury in October also convicted 29-year-old Eugene Jimenez of Reading of child endangerment and aggravated assault in the February 2009 death of Ayden Jimenez.

Authorities said the child had bleeding in the brain, broken ribs and other injuries that doctors called consistent with child abuse.

Jimenez's attorney sought a lighter sentence, saying his client had learning difficulties and no record of violent crimes.

Prosecutors sought a more severe term, saying the defendant lacked remorse.

Judge Thomas Parisi says he hoped that decades in prison would help Jimenez develop better skills to cope with anger.
