York couple gives $6 million to advance music in area

(York) -- A York couple is giving nearly $6 million to a midstate foundation to offer more opportunities in music.

Jim and Beverly Mohatt left the donations in their wills.

Jim Mohatt died in February 2014, while his wife passed away in 1996.

They gave the money to the York County Community Foundation, designating it through an endowment.

The money will support music education scholarships, the York Symphony Orchestra, the York Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Spring Garden Band.

All organizations praised the gifts, saying it will allow each to further ther mission.

Jim Mohatt taught at York College for years, while Beverly Mohatt was a member of the York Symphony Orchestra.
