(New Florence) -- A man suspected of fatally shooting a western Pennsylvania police officer who responded to a domestic dispute has been charged with homicide.

Ray Shetler Jr. is facing one count of criminal homicide.

Police say Shetler shot St. Clair Township Officer Lloyd Reed after officers were called to the domestic situation in New Florence, Westmoreland County on Saturday night.

Reed, who had been an officer for more than 20 years, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The 31-year-old suspect was captured early Sunday after a six-hour manhunt. He was treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Governor Tom Wolf ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on all state buildings in the slain officer's honor.

"Thoughts and prayers are with family and colleagues of St. Clair Township Officer Lloyd Reed who was killed in the line of duty last night," the governor said in a statement. "Today, and every day, we are reminded of those that make the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities safe."
