York County judge postponing retirement because of shortage

(York) -- A York County judge is postponing his retirement because of a shortage of judges in the county.

Court of Common Pleas President Judge Stephen Linebaugh isn't setting a date for his retirement.

He was scheduled to step down at the end of the year.

Linebaugh says he can't leave the court after four judges stepped away from the bench.

One judge will return from active-duty military service late next year, and two other judges will be elected in November.

If Linebaugh had left at the end of 2015, the court would have had to rely on a rotation of judges to hear civil cases.
