(Harrisburg) -- The three-day Memorial Day weekend has turned out to be a deadly one on Pennsylvania's roads.

State police investigated a total of 718 accidents, which resuled in 13 fatalities and 247 injuries.

In comparison, there were five fatalities and 277 injuries during last year's Memorial Day travel period.

Sixty-two of the accidents troopers investigated this year were alcohol-related, including two which resulted in fatalities.

They made 451 DUI arrests, cited more than 1,200 people for not wearing seat belts and issued citations to another 306 motorists for not securing children in safety seats.

The official Memorial Day travel period lasted from 6:00 p.m. Friday through midnight Monday.
