(Hummelstown) -- A Dauphin County borough is conducting an internal review into the fatal shooting of an unarmed man by one of its police officers.

Hummelstown's council has to hire the Elliott Greenleaf law firm for the inquiry into the February 2nd death of 59-year-old David Kassick.

The firm will also review the borough's policies and procedures.

Police say video from Officer Lisa Mearkle's stun gun shows her shooting Kassick twice in the back as he lay face down after a chase that began over expired inspection and emissions stickers.

She has been charged with criminal homicide and awaits trial.

Mearkle's lawyers have said she acted in self-defense and was concerned Kassick may have been reaching for a weapon.

She's suspended without pay from the police force.
