(Harrisburg) -- A recent report spotlights just how many families remain in poverty in Pennsylvania.

The Creating Opportunities for Families report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation shows in 29 percent of families with children up to age eight, no parent has full time employment.

For those at or near poverty, the figure jumps above 50 percent.

Patrice Cromwell with the Foundation says Pennsylvania's numbers on education also are largely in line with the national average.

"So we as a nation, as well as Pennsylvania, have a ways to go to make sure parents have the skills they need to get a family-supporting job," she says.

The report's recommendations include expanding the child tax credit, increasing access to job training programs, and creating more flexible work schedule policies.
