(Harrisburg) -- One of Pennsylvania's largest state government agencies may soon be getting a name change.
The state Senate has voted unanimously to change the name of the Department of Public Welfare to the Department of Human Services.
Supporters say a new name would better reflect what the agency does and remove a stigma sometimes associated with public assistance and welfare.
DPW Secretary Bev Mackereth said last year the change would cost millions and wasn't affordable, but the latest estimate from her department is it would cost about $1 million.
Governor Corbett's office says he currently supports the measure.
The bill goes back to the House, which previously passed a version of the same legislation.
