(Harrisburg) -- Just days after a change to the southbound lanes, the northbound approach on Interstate 83 to the “John Harris Memorial Bridge”, also known as the South Bridge, over the Susquehanna River in the Harrisburg area will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes of traffic Saturday. The southbound traffic restriction is scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The traffic restriction is necessary so that bridge inspectors can safely operate in the right lane and shoulder area in the vicinity of the northbound off-ramp to Second Street (Exit 43).
Motorists are asked to be alert to this operation and to slow down when approaching and traveling through the work area, for their safety as well as for the safety of the inspection and work crews.
Motorists on southbound I-83 approaching the bridge should be prepared to encounter significant traffic congestion and travel delays, even before the 7 a.m. start time as work crews set up the traffic pattern for the bridge inspection operation.
