(Harrisburg) -- Gubernatorial nominee Tom Wolf has endorsed a former opponent, Katie McGinty, for chairwoman of the state Democratic Party.

Also Wednesday, Wolf endorsed state Representative Jake Wheatley of Allegheny County as vice chairman. Wolf disclosed his choices in an e-mail to Democratic State Committee members, who are scheduled to choose the next party chair at their June 21 meeting in Camp Hill.

Wolf said he picked McGinty, who placed fourth in the four-way primary race, and Wheatley because he wants a "battle-tested'' team in place in his campaign against Governor Corbett.

McGinty, a former secretary of the state Department of Environmental Protection, says she's excited by the prospect of leading the party.

The present chairman, Jim Burn, did not immediately return telephone messages seeking comment.
