WITF lands eight PAPBA awards

(State College) -- WITF's Multimedia News Department and WITF-TV have been honored by the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association (PAPBA) with eight awards for excellence in broadcast journalism.

PAPBA groups WITF in the Medium Market Radio and Medium Market Television Categories.

A trio of WITF's major initiatives -- StateImpact Pennsylvania, Pushed Around: The Bullying Project and the Arts and Culture Desk -- were honored with seven awards, including two first-place honors. Marie Cusick  swept all three honors in the Enterprise/Individual Reporting category.

"I'm immensely proud of the unique journalism produced by our reporters, especially Marie," says WITF's Multimedia News Director Tim Lambert. "She and the rest of the team work very hard to tell the best stories possible and fulfill our public service mission."

WITF-TV received a second-place honor for Smart Talk in the News or Sports Talk Show category.

1st Place:

Shortchanging Landowners -- Marie Cusick

Judges Comments': This story kept my attention from start to finish. It drew me in to the plight of the homeowners, while remaining balanced by providing in-depth details from all angles.

First Place:

Pushed Around: What Makes a Bully --  Craig Layne

Judges' Comments: Excellent topic and angle on the topic. Compelling interview clips engages the listener to the emotion of bullying. Excellent information, educational, delivery, production values. Grabs the listener and moves well for the entire piece. Very professional.
