(York) -- A defense attorney says a central Pennsylvania woman accused of slashing her 2-year-old son's neck says his client will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

37-year-old Candis Bradshaw appeared in court in York County on Thursday for a pretrial conference.

Defense attorney Craig Penglase asked the judge for a delay to allow the evaluation, and the pretrial conference was rescheduled for Aug. 21.

Police allege that Bradshaw cut the boy on both sides of his neck with a 12-inch butcher knife on Jan. 17 at their Fairview Township home. He spent several days in the hospital.

Bradshaw was charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

Investigators said Bradshaw also stabbed herself in the chest. Penglase has said he believes she ``suffered a psychotic break.''
