(Pottsville) -- Hundreds of people have mourned Army Captain Jason B. Jones after the Schuylkill County native was killed in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon said the 29-year-old  from Orwigsburg died last Monday in Afghanistan of wounds from small-arms fire.

His Saturday memorial service overflowed with people and his father, Jay Jones says his humble son would have been embarrassed at all the attention. The line at First United Methodist Church in Pottsville stretched out the door.

His younger sister, Dr. Lizzy Jones, says the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, had motivated him. His family says Jones studied nuclear engineering at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and graduated sixth in his class.

Jones was a green beret was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
