(Steelton) -- An abandoned church has partially collapsed in Steelton, damaging an adjacent home and displacing two families.

Mayor Thomas Acri says he wants to knock down the building as soon as possible because he's concerned another part of the structure might crumble into the street.

The church's roof caved in Saturday night, pulling down part of its facade.

Acri says the former house of worship has been vacant for a few years. He says the borough  has not been able to identify its owner.

The former church leader and his wife have died, and property records come up empty. Acri also says the town can't afford to pay for demolition work.
