(Franklin) -- State police say a car that crashed into a vehicle driven by a Republican state senator from northwestern Pennsylvania was being driven by a 13-year-old boy who stole it.

Troopers from the Franklin barracks aren't identifying the boy because of his age. He's being charged in Venango County Juvenile Court.

Police say 52-year-old Sen. Scott Hutchinson, of Oil City, was southbound on Route 8 in Sandycreek Township on Friday when the teen's vehicle sideswiped Hutchinson's sport-utility vehicle about 4:35 p.m.

Hutchinson and his wife, Mary Beth, were both wearing seat belts and weren't hurt.

The lawmaker represents the 21st Senate District, which includes Venango County, where the accident occurred, as well as all of Clarion and Forest counties, and parts of Butler and Warren counties.
