(New Philadelphia) -- A rare coroner's inquest is being held today to try to determine what killed a Schuylkill County prison inmate a year ago.

The inquest, the county's first in more than a decade, focuses on the March 2013 death of 21-year-old Matthew Koncsler of Shenandoah.

Authorities said Koncsler began serving a drug sentence less than two weeks before he was found dead in his cell.  An autopsy didn't immediately reveal a cause of death.

Coroner Dr. David J. Moylan III says Koncsler's death was ``unusual.'' He adds, "I think we need to shine some light on it.''

District Attorney Christine Holman says authorities hope to determine whether the death was a criminal act or negligence or if the cause is still unknown.
