(Scranton) -- A former state senator found mentally incompetent to stand trial on corruption charges has reported to a prison hospital in North Carolina, as ordered by a federal judge.

A spokesman for the federal Bureau of Prisons says 84-year-old Raphael Musto is in custody at the Federal Medical Center at Butner in Granville County, N.C.

Prosecutors said Musto accepted cash and other perks in exchange for his help obtaining taxpayer money for development projects, and took additional cash as a reward for helping a municipality get state loans.

Musto pleaded not guilty in November 2010 and efforts by his attorneys repeatedly delayed a trial.
