Assisted suicide charges dropped in Schuylkill County

(Pottsville) -- A midstate judge has dismissed an assisted suicide charge against a nurse accused of handing her 93-year-old terminally ill father a bottle of morphine.

In a 47-page ruling today, the Schuykill County judge ruled that prosecutors had failed to prove any crime occurred and largely based their case against 57-year-old Barbara Mancini on hearsay and speculation.

Pottsville police had charged Mancini with helping her dying father, Joseph Yourshaw, commit suicide by providing him with morphine on Feb. 7, 2013, at his home.

Mancini was charged in August 2013.
