(Harrisburg) -- Midstate Senator Mike Folmer has received a clean bill of health, two years after being diagnosed with cancer.

The Lebanon County Republican was told he had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in February 2012.

Just as he informed his constituents of the diagnosis, Folmer says he shared the good news of his recovery via social media.

"There's a sweetness to life," he says. "I've been blessed to have a beautiful family, and I have seven beautiful grandchildren."

"To know that I'm going to be around to enjoy them some more, that was awesome news."

Folmer says his faith and family helped him endure chemotherapy and two surgeries -- never missing a session day.

Late last year, Folmer announced he would be sponsoring medical marijuana legislation in the Senate. It was referred to the Law and Justice Committee earlier this week, which has scheduled a public hearing for January 28th.
