York County inmate found dead Tuesday

(York) -- Authorities say a 28-year-old York County Prison inmate died early this morning in his cell.

James Earl Greer, Jr. was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 3 a.m. Prison staff immediately called in on-site medical personnel. Their efforts to revive Greer using CPR were not succesful.

Prison staff did not observe any signs of physical trauma.

Greer was being held in York County Prison at the request of Dauphin County.

He was being held without bail in the Lower Paxton Township strangling death of 32 year old Heather Marie Bechtel. Greer faced a homicide charge in that case.

Pennsylvania State Police and the York County Coroner’s Office are investigating. Further requests for information should be directed to those offices.
